ANONYMOUS COMMENTS
George who filled out my survey brought it to my attention that my blog didn't allow for anonymous comments I have to agree with him that would be annoying (having to sign for an account just to make a comment). I have now rectified that anyone can make a post.

BIG ISSUE
SURVEY SURVEY SURVEY
JUST A SHORT SURVEY
The survey responses will be used by me to establish the experiences cyclists have in the City of Sydney. The responses will be used to build a research archive and will be central to the research findings. The survey responses coupled with my own experiences on the road will provide me with a enough informatin to produce a design outcome that reflects the research findings.
Why do you ride to work?
Why did you stop riding?
How did you get into cycling?
How many times a week do you Ride?
Approximately How far do you ride a week?
How long have you been riding?
What route(s) do you take to the work?
Most importantly what are some of the experiences you've had while riding?

'me old mate'
Me old mate is a NISHIKI COLORADO I obtained him from my cousin who lives in Wollongong. I didn't want to spend heaps of money so I drove down to the Gong got the bike and I was away (if I continue this caper I'm going to buy a new bike). I refer to him as 'my old mate' because we have a history. I spent two years at Wollongong Uni doing Geography. I know. Now I'm doing Graphic design go figure. But that's a story another time and another blog. While I was at Wollongong Uni i use my cousins bike 'me old mate' to ride round the Gong, for Surfing, Uni and to generally get about. (The Gong is one cool town to ride around there are Bike tracks every where and a few hills).
When I rode for a surf I would just have my wetsuit on, no shoes and my board under my arm it was pretty hairy when there was a strong off-shore breeze blowing it was liable to grab your board with me still attached and blow me into the Bushes or on coming cyclists
'on the road again'
I'm on the road again had a quick ride from the shop up at Hurstville back to Oatley only took me 18 minutes not super quick but pretty happy. I got home about the same time as my dad who dropped me at the shop. here are some images from my dusk ride.
I rate Riding home at dusk the lights but watching the sun set and trying to beat it down is fun.
Ride 4 and 1/2
Afternoon people just completed my 4th and ½ ride into the city. I say 4th and ½ because I my last ride was when my old mate broke down. Today was HOT. 27 degrees and I felt it. My shirt was soaked through on the back from sweat, my legs were tired and my arms were tired. BUT I felt great, I felt (awake) I could literally feel the endorphins pumping through my body or maybe I was just giddy from tiredness. Either way it was a good feeling.
For this ride I rode from my house in Oatley over to Mortdale Station where I jumped on the train from there I rode next to the Train line past Sydenham station and made my way up to Enmore Rd. it was at this stage I came across a shared pedestrian/bicycle path I followed this for about a 1km but found the route was poorly sign posted because I kept wondering if I was still on the shared path I eventually gave up and joined the cars on the road.
My route then led me to Sydney Uni and from there it was a pleasant trip through the park (I forgot to get photos, I was enjoying the ride too much). It was then a short ride up Broadway which I didn’t enjoy the road was chokers with traffic.

'its the experience'
My tutor asked me why do I want to visually document cycling to the CBD. In other words what is that going to tell me about the process of cycling? How will it inform me about the positives and negatives of cycling to the CBD.
But its not the positives and negatives that I want to find out about. Its the experience. The experiences that you can only have on bicycle. I feel so much more aware of my surroundings when I'm on my bike. Not like when I'm driving my car when I'm shut off from the world with the music blaring completely oblivious to what I pass except for the idiot who just cut me off. Its alot like when I'm surfing I just forget my troubles and ride (apart from when I stop to take a photo for this blog.

'IN THE SHOP'
Well people I should update you on the latest. I am currently off the bike as it is in the shop. While riding the other day my bike started to play up. I was just not enjoying the ride which; led me to decide my old mate needed a service. So it is now in the shop receiving a new chain and a well deserved tweak to the gears and brakes. Wednesday arvo I'll be back on the road.
WELCOME TO CYCLING 101
Hi how you goin. I'm a student at the University of technology Sydney (UTS). I am currently undertaking a Bachelor of Design in Visual Communication and I am in my final year, it is this fact that has led me to creating this blog.
Why? I hear you ask. Well I am researching the pros and cons of cycling into the CBD from my perspective and this blog is for you guys to keep track of my progress. I will continually update the blog with visuals and written entries of my journeys, journeys that start at my house and end at UTS.
This is in aid of an assignment where I hope to produce a visual outcome from my research that will encourage more people to ride within Sydney. This blog will work as a support of that visual when it is finally produced People will be able to get tips from my experiences, route planning and preparations that make my trips safer.
